ABOUT PTA

The principle focus of the OJCS Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is to work in partnership with the administration, teachers, students and parents to enhance day-to-day school life and to raise money for school events. The PTA is a great way for you to get involved in your child’s school activities and events, meet other parents and help foster an inclusive and supportive school experience.

Some of the current initiatives for the school year include:

Grandparents/Special Friends Day
Each year we invite grandparents and special friends (ie. Aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends) to visit our students in their OJCS classrooms do to do activities together, meet other grandparents and friends, talk with faculty, watch performance and see first-hand the wonderful things happening in our school.

Support the Lice Squad
The Parent Lice Squad (Parent Squad) will go into the school and work collaboratively with the outside agency we enlist to provide service if there is an issue with lice.  The Parent Squad will do follow-up checks, if needed, following the agency’s bi-annual visits.Requirements:
must be able to identify lice
must know what to look for (nits or bugs)
be willing to be on call
must sign a confidentiality agreement

Organization of the Welcome Back BBQ
The Welcome Back BBQ is held before Labour Day weekend to bring the school community together before the start of the school year. The PTA works with the school to organize the set-up, food and overall organization of the event. It is also a great opportunity to welcome new families, drop off school supplies, buy used uniforms and new kippahs.

Use Echoage to invite your child’s friends to their  birthday party online. Instead of bringing a wrapped and packaged present to the party, your guests simply RSVP and give a secure online contribution. All the contributions from guests are pooled together. Half of the funds collected are sent to the parent hosting the party (by check or by PayPal) and the birthday boy or girl chooses any gift or gifts they want. The other half of the funds collected at the party are sent by ECHOage to the charity (our school) the birthday boy or girl has chosen to support.

Volunteer Opportunities

PARENT PARTICIPATION PROGRAM

Each family is asked to commit a minimum of five hours over the entire school year to assist with school activities. This program is similar to those found in Jewish schools across Canada and North America and it gives parents the opportunity to see first-hand the great things happening in our school.

Hours will be tracked and a mid-year statement will be sent, so you may complete your hours by the end of the school year. Parents are asked to record their hours in a binder, located in front of the main school office. For those who are unable to commit to the five hours, the school requests a donation of $10 per hour.

A list of possible volunteer options are below that include volunteering with classroom activities, school events, helping with hot lunch and milk days, and chaperoning school field trips.  We thank you in advance for your support.
